What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) is a modern, positive and evidence-based therapeutic approach that helps you move towards the life you want.
Rather than analysing the past, SFH focuses on your strengths, your resources, and your preferred future — supporting change in a calm, structured and highly effective way.

SFH combines three key elements:

1. Solution-Focused Talking Therapy

A gentle but powerful conversational approach that helps you clarify what you want to achieve and identify the steps that move you forward. This is not problem-focused therapy — it is uplifting, practical and future-orientated.

2. Hypnosis / Trance

Hypnosis is a naturally relaxed state, similar to daydreaming, where the mind becomes calmer and more receptive to helpful ideas, visualisations and positive change. Clients often describe this as deeply restful, restorative and grounding.

3. Brain-Based Education

SFH uses simple, accessible neuroscience to explain how stress, habits and emotions work. Understanding these processes helps you feel more in control and better able to break old patterns and build new ones.

Why People Choose SFH

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is:
  • Future-focused: The emphasis is on where you want to be, not what went wrong.

  • Calming and restorative: Hypnosis settles the nervous system and supports deep relaxation.

  • Strengths-based: You build on what’s already working, rather than getting stuck in the problem.

  • Encouraging: SFH promotes confidence, hope and a sense of agency.

  • Efficient and goal-oriented: Many clients notice change quickly and feel lighter, clearer and more grounded.

  • Collaborative: You and your therapist work together to shape the direction of your progress.

What Solution Focused Hypnotherapy Can Support

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a collaborative, evidence informed approach that supports positive change by working with the subconscious mind and encouraging healthier thought patterns, emotional regulation, and resilience. It is not a diagnostic or medical treatment, but a supportive therapeutic practice that can help clients manage and improve their experience of a wide range of emotional, mental, and stress related challenges.

It may be helpful in supporting people with:

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy works best when used as part of a broader approach to wellbeing and is always adapted to the needs, goals, and readiness of the individual.

What Hypnotherapy Is Not

To support clarity and informed choice, it is important to understand what hypnotherapy is not.

  • Hypnotherapy is not a medical treatment and does not diagnose or cure physical or mental health conditions

  • It does not replace medical, psychological, or psychiatric care

  • It is not a form of mind control and you will remain aware, conscious, and in control throughout

  • You cannot be made to do or say anything against your will

  • It is not a quick fix or guaranteed cure

  • It does not involve reliving trauma or uncovering hidden memories

  • Progress depends on collaboration, consent, and the individual’s willingness to engage with the process

Hypnotherapy is a gentle, respectful, and client led practice that works alongside professional healthcare where appropriate, supporting positive change rather than forcing it.
