Somatic Bodywork with Mydd

Somatic bodywork invites you back into the living intelligence of your body.
It is a quiet returning, a softening, a way of meeting the places that hold tension, memory and emotion.

If you’ve ever felt that talking alone cannot reach the deeper layers of your experience, somatic bodywork offers another doorway. A gentler one, rooted in breath, touch, movement and presence. Here, we listen to the body with respect and curiosity, allowing what has been held to shift in its own time.

This is embodied work.
It is tactile, intuitive and grounded.
It supports you in coming home to yourself.

What is Somatic Bodywork?

Somatic bodywork recognises the inseparable connection between your physical body, your emotional landscape and your nervous system. Stress, trauma, pressure and the daily weight of living often lodge themselves into muscle tone, breath, posture and nervous-system rhythms. Over time, patterns develop that leave you feeling contracted, stuck or disconnected from your own being.

In this work we honour a "bottom-up" approach: the body leads, not the mind. Rather than starting with story or explanation, we begin with sensation, breath and movement, giving the body space to move, release and integrate what was bound. As we tune into the body’s language of survival — fight, flight, freeze, collapse — we can allow those responses to complete, dissolve or transform so your nervous system can begin to rest, regulate and trust again.

Through sensitive touch, breath-awareness, guided movement and moment-to-moment attunement, somatic bodywork helps you soften what is rigid, release what is held and reconnect with your body’s natural intelligence. This work is not about forcing change. It is about inviting it, listening for it and allowing it to unfold from within.

What to Expect in a Session

When you arrive, you’re welcomed into a calm, grounding space.
We begin with a gentle conversation: how you are arriving today, what is asking for attention and what you feel ready to explore.

You then settle on a treatment couch or mat, fully clothed and comfortable. From here the session may include:

  • Attuned, supportive touch

  • Breath-listening and regulation

  • Subtle movement invitations

  • Stillness and grounding

  • Tracking the nervous system’s rhythms — activation, release, settling

You may notice warmth, tingling, unwinding or shifts in sensation. Emotional release may surface, or deep rest and quiet integration. Some sessions feel expansive and transformative; others feel soothing and deeply restorative. Your body sets the pace.

Afterwards, we take time for you to integrate, reflect and return gently.

How Somatic Bodywork Can Support You

This work is especially beneficial when you’re navigating:

  • Stress, overwhelm or nervous-system fatigue

  • Anxiety, hyper-activation or shutdown states

  • Emotional heaviness, numbness or disconnection from your felt sense

  • Trauma held in the body that talking alone can’t reach

  • Chronic tension, restricted movement or protective patterns

  • Life transitions, creative blocks or feeling “stuck”

  • A longing to reconnect with your body’s intuition, vitality and presence

Here is how the work supports these experiences:

1. Nervous-System Regulation

The nervous system often remains activated long after a difficult experience has passed. Somatic work gently guides you to sense and move through the body’s defensive responses — fight, flight, freeze, collapse — allowing them to complete, discharge and settle.
Over time, your “window of tolerance” expands, meaning you can meet life from a place of greater steadiness, clarity and resilience.

2. Somatic Awareness – Reconnecting to Body Wisdom

You learn to listen to what your body communicates through sensation, breath and movement. This develops interoceptive awareness — the ability to feel your inner landscape — and allows deeper self-understanding. As you notice subtle sensations, breath rhythms and internal signals, the body begins to guide you toward ease and groundedness.

3. Release of Held Patterns

Tension, bracing, shallow breathing, collapsed posture or restricted movement are not flaws; they are protective responses. Through attuned touch and movement, these patterns can begin to unwind. What was locked or frozen can soften, move and transform, making space for new ways of being.

4. Expanding Body Confidence & Embodied Presence

As your body settles into a more regulated state, confidence grows from the inside. You may find yourself standing differently, breathing more freely or inhabiting your body with greater trust. Somatic bodywork supports you in reclaiming your presence — not by forcing confidence but by letting it emerge naturally.

5. Complementing Therapeutic, Creative or Emotional Work

Because somatic work begins with the body, it beautifully complements talk therapy, energy work, creative processes or physical healing. It helps your body integrate change so that your emotional, creative or psychological work can take deeper root.

Body Confidence, Inclusion & Gentle Sensitivity

Somatic bodywork is a profound support for cultivating body confidence.
Your body is not something to fix — it is something to honour.
Through touch, breath and presence, we create space for your body to be met without judgement, allowing you to feel safe, welcomed and fully in your skin.

Working with LGBTQ+ and Neurodiverse Clients

I have extensive experience supporting LGBTQ+ people and neurodiverse clients. I understand how identity, sensory experience and embodiment can intersect in complex and tender ways.

For LGBTQ+ clients, somatic work can help rebuild trust in the body, soften patterns of disconnection or shame, and reconnect you to a sense of embodied belonging and affirmation.

For neurodiverse clients — including those with ADHD, autism traits or sensory sensitivities — this work offers pathways to regulate the nervous system, understand sensory needs, and cultivate grounding and body awareness.

Everyone Is Welcome

While I hold particular sensitivity for LGBTQ+ communities and neurodiverse people, this work is open to all.
Whatever your identity, background, age or lived experience, your body is welcome here.
This space offers presence, respect and genuine listening.

Why Work With Me

I bring over two decades of experience working with bodies, energy and the subtle landscapes within us. My approach blends solid technique with intuitive presence.

The structure — touch, breath, movement and nervous-system understanding — provides the frame.
The connection — empathy, attunement and deep listening — allows the work to come alive.

In our sessions, you are not analysed; you are met.
Together we follow what your system reveals, allowing healing and transformation to emerge naturally.
